And so it begins ... shameless pork barrelling

In response to the announcement that $140M will be budgeted to upgrade the New England Highway, New England independent Adam Blakester had this to say …

“This is shameless pork barrelling.

“Mr Joyce and the Nationals must really be worried if they need to start throwing around these sorts of funding commitment to buy votes.

“I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg but let’s not forget, these funding promises may amount to zero if the Coalition aren’t re-elected.

“I certainly advocate for safer roads and improved connectivity, but this is outrageous pork barrelling and it doesn’t compensate for the electorate being largely ignored for the last 18 months whilst Mr Joyce has chased his leadership aspirations.

“History has proven that the New England has fared better with an independent at the helm. Not only have we seen great infrastructure like Tamworth Hospital, the Rural School of Medical Heath and the rollout of the NBN, we have enjoyed a federal representative that is visible, engaged and respectful of community views.

“Barnaby Joyce and the Nationals have had two terms, all the resources of a government and now an eight-month publicity stunt in the guise of a Drought Envoy, and still we have no strategic plan to address our water crisis.

“Every LGA in the New England electorate is now on serious water restrictions. Any promises of money for water infrastructure is coming far too late”
